Aligning to the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Assessing Contributions of UBC Botanical Garden

The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development outlines 17 goals the wellbeing of people and planet. purpose this study was to understand how University British Columbia Botanical Garden (UBCBG) contributes Goals (UN-SDGs) identify opportunities future action. To address this, we worked across departments assess our programs activities against UN-SDG 169 targets. indicators were only used potential metrics that could be consider tracking. main UBCBG include ex situ plant conservation, sustainability education community engagement. Our results found 12 24 two UN-SDGs with more targets aligned UBCBG’s Goal 15—Life on Land 12—Responsible Consumption Production. Through its partnerships other botanical gardens, research institutions regional government, amplifies work at a global, national level. We are re-imagining role gardens in an age equity, decolonization, biodiversity crisis climate emergency. Since both nature people, they appropriate framework guide work.
